This is a great example. I feel a bit silly admitting this because I've worked in a technology field for over 10 years, but I'm only just recently beginning to learn to use the internet properly to tap the genius of others. In the past I've figured that the opportunities for mentorship were limited to the individuals at close physical proximity. As a result, I've often felt quite isolated. Excellent post, thanks.

Holly,
I think that what you're pointing out is part of a larger movement toward collaboration and connection that we Gen Y'ers will thrive on in our careers. Rather than thinking it's best to "go it alone" we want to connect and involve others in our lives so that growth is shared and fun. I think this movement is especially valuable because the world we live in now is so dynamic. Having a trusted group of people to talk to and validate or challenge our observations is an intelligent way to maintain sanity and perspective. Thanks for sharing your approach. I think it's great.

"When you target people based on how happy they are with their career, you learn how to be happy – not necessarily how to follow their career path." Great point! I just realized I have mentors that I didn't know were mentors! Thanks for reminding me!

[...] I Want What You Have – The New Mentorship My post on mentorship explores a new definition and criteria for mentorship – wanting what that person has. I also introduce you to the village of mentors I have. As someone said, “Wow. Sounds like you have a lot of support.” Yeaaaaaaah… [...]

The value of setting up your environment with people who enable you to do and be more is simply priceless. Good for you for setting up these relationships and nurturing them to the point where it's a win-win. Go Holly!

Love this, Holly. I've always envied the support system you seem to have surrounded yourself with. I'm going to try harder to do this myself. I have a number of great relationships, I just need to keep them up!

Very nice, I like the way you broke this down into different mentor types. I'll try to publish my post tonight. Great idea, Holly!
