I'm a big proponent of the mentoring concept for young adults, particularly early 20's and just out of college, for everything you mentioned in this post. Let's face it, people in their 20's don't know dick about jobs, life, and love. I've been meaning to blog about it but got sidetracked by all the filth and sleeze I write about. Anyway, sounds like you've got your mentor!

Dude. Get your MBA at ASU in Phoenix and come be my friend. I need a good, solid, non-work, non-boyfriend-related friend here in town!

"I believe that everyone ought to have a personal board of directors in their life…"

So true! I'm very fortunate to have several advisors and mentors on a variety of topics in my life!

I'm still hesitant about a life coach, but your article did make me think twice! Cheers!

Holly -- It's fantastic that you have such a great support system in place! Life sometimes gets so muddled that it's hard to deal with it on your own, but getting a fresh perspective helps put things in its place and gives you a clearer view of what you want and how to get it.

I'm especially convinced that your twenties are the most difficult time of your life (we'll see what I have to say when I reach thirty!) because you're all of a sudden expected to juggle all that you named -- finances, romance, career, personal development -- while being thrust into an adult world that you're still trying to figure out how to navigate.

I'm so glad that you found someone who is such a positive influence for you, who can show you the tools you already have and offer the encouragement to go after what you want. Brava, Ms. Holly, keep it up ;)

@stephanerd: BrazenCareerist.com hooked me up with Jenny through their Coachology section of their site. You can go on there and look through different coaches with varying specialities. You can read testimonials, as well as questions the coaches have answered, to see who might fit with you.

There is TONS of information there to help you make a decision. Plus, Brazen doesn't let any and all coaches onto their site. They are selected.

@oneorganizedlife: I was matched with Jenny through Brazen Careerist's Coachology section. She is *perfect* for me. I have no doubt that the people over there found me the right coach.

@steve errey: I guess I see coaching a little like I see therapy - it doesn't need to be life-long, but it can help you expand and add tools to your toolbox. Jenny shows me tools I already have but don't know how to use. Then she makes me use them! It's like a really encouraging friend who has to help & offer advice. ;)

In such an unregulated field, how did you find a coach this awesome? Did you interviews or consult with a number of coaches before you settled on her?

All too often us coaches get a bad rap. Taking money for spewing nonsense, being out of touch and telling people what to do with their lives with no back-up are all opinins I've come across.

So it's fantastic to see a great write-up of what coaching can do.

The truth is that there are bad coaches out there, just like thereare bad plumbers, lawyers and doctors. It's important to do a bit of leg work to find the right coach for you, and to work with them as long as it's useful to do so.

Thrilled that you've had such a great experience with your coach Holly!

Sounds like you have a really great coach. It seems like she offers just what you need - which can sometimes be hard to find.
